All things cinnamon
Our monthly round up of what's new on the Sourced website and a quick catch up on what September was like for Anna & Chloe (reader, it was *busy*)
Hello lovely subscribers, we’ve noticed a few new friends have joined us! Thank you so much for subscribing to our free monthly newsletter where we update you on what we’ve been up to 🧡
We’re well into Cinnamon Season now and have a few stunners up on the website courtesy of paid-subscriber fees! Thank you so much for backing our project so we can publish pieces like Clarissa Wei’s ‘Ode to Taiwanese Cinnamon’, a 2-part deep dive into the history of cinnamon in British baking, written, shot and read by Dan Lepard, and an interrogation of the colonial history of gin distilling and the imperial spice trade from Nikhita Venugopal. All ready to read on the website now!

Cinnamon-y things Chloe and Anna have been up to:
Chloe got a really excellent cinnamon bun from Landrace Bakery in Bath.
Anna spoke about cinnamon in Norway at ArktiskMat, an annual celebration of food culture held in Mosjøen, Norway consisting of two days of talks, workshops and food! A recording of the talk will be available on the Sourced website soon! Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @sourcedjourneys so you don't miss it!
Anna also incorporated cinnamon into the installation show of Rumah Khai’s Kelab Malam. This was the result of a residency of one week, where Anna worked with two other South East Asian women, Mae & KG, - the installation presentation was the result of this week held at Rich Mix. A presentation of stories of home, missing home, and food!
We did a summit!
Like in-person, on a stage and streamed internationally 😬. Sourced was thrilled to take part in Concave Summit which was started in Singapore by Vicky Yeo in 2018. The summit was created to provide a platform for discussions about how we can move society towards more sustainable practices with a particular focus on building industries that are mindful of community-building and social impact. Concave Summit 2021 was an official fringe event for London Tech Week and consisted of a day of presentations and discussions focused on the theme of ‘Shifting Mindsets in sustainability .’ Co-founder Chloe-Rose hosted a panel addressing the question ‘How tech be developed to service the needs of local communities?’ with Made in Hackney Founder, Sarah Bentley and Freddie Broadhurst, a digital engagement practitioner for Kanda Consulting and co-founder of ALLOT, a platform that connects charitable organisations in need of office space with businesses that have office space to spare.
Co-founder Anna Sulan hosted the event and wrote about the experience in her essay for the last issue of our paid newsletter. (Did we mention that all new paid-subscribers get access to our archive of paid newsletters?!)

Don’t miss Cinnamon: The Making of Myths and Legends and our Cinnamon Season syllabus on the website!
We also spoke with international Editor for Resy, David Paw who shared his answers to The Ten with us!
And a little remind of other stories - the seasonally appropriate The Politics of Flavour, where Thomas Haigh looks at coffee with the lens of autumnal flavours.
What are you using cinnamon for?
We would love to see how you use cinnamon. Whether it be in baking, savoury dishes or for witchy incantations tag us @sourcedjourneys on instagram to share with us!
That’s all the updates from us for now, but we’ll see you on the internet 😘
